( Tips & Strategies)
Let’s talk about some strategies & tips to understand nature.
What is active reading?
Reading something with determination to understand & evaluate according to your need. it’s not about reading or rereading the context. it’s about critically engaging with the whole idea to save your time & energy.
- Effective Strategies for Active Readers
1: Reading with the specific focus
2: Always keep in mind the information you’re looking for to read
3: Break your text into portions
4: Don’t feel you have to read the whole text in one sitting
5: Try to question the text as you read. Did the author represent everything right
6: Taking notes as you need
Let’s talk about the most important strategies for reading practice.
- ANNOTATION & SUMMARIZATION
“ANNOTATION” is basically adding notes to (a text or diagram) giving explanation or comment. It’s all about highlighting & underlining key words and phrases or major ideas. You can use this method to review the material specially in exams.
“SUMMARIZATION” is all about expressing the most important facts or ideas about something or someone in a short and clear form. Shorten what you read to the most important ideas.
To summarize, focus on the main ideas and important details while reading to help you generate a summary. If you’re reading a shorter text you summarize after reading the whole text.
- USING LANGUAGE LEARNING APPS
**NAVER DICTIONARY
This is a Korean search engine. Which you can use while studying Korean. It includes really useful features like a dictionary for words & word of the day. Which will help you at your beginner level of Korean learning. Also one of the features is called daily korean conversations which will help you to listen to the random stories & you can translate them for more fun.
Must check the other two options. These two are also helpful in improving language learning.
- JOINING BOOK CLUBS OR ONLINE READING GROUPS
First of all let’s discuss
What are book clubs?
A book discussion club is a group of people who meet to discuss books they have read. It is often simply called a book club. The basic idea of joining the book club is to have a discussion about all the things related to books, authors, genres or publishing in a safe supportive environment.
- Reasons to join the language book clubs
- Meeting new people with the same language interests
- Encouraging critical thinking
- Lifetime connections
- Community where you can understand the different point of views about language & culture
- Create reading accountability
- Get outside your comfort zone being a non-native speaker.
- Talking about books with people in a fun way.
HOW TO CHOOSE A GOOD ONLINE BOOK CLUB?
- First of all you need to understand that reading should be a fun activity. You don’t have to take so much stress while studying a language in order to get a better understanding.
- Only join those clubs which you feel comfortable & confident in being a part of.
- Try to join clubs which are according to your language level & abilities. You can interact with the members to understand nature.
MY SUGGESTION:
You have to work on the formula of “Catch & Release”. You need to understand what things to catch & what things to release. Like when you join a book club don’t focus on everything you see. Just try to understand the material & resources which are related to your Korean learning interests.
Here are some recommendations which you can check.
- KOREAN LITERATURE CLUB 📚
Facebook Group (Literature Club)
- SEOUL BOOK & CULTURE CLUB 📑
- KOREAN BOOK CLUB
Must check all these recommendations. These all are useful for “Beginners to Advanced level learners”.
- SETTING SPECIFIC READING GOALS & TRACKING PROGRESS
- Always make realistic & easily achievable goals. Doesn’t matter if you are beginner level or advanced level learners.
- Only make those goals which you feel like you have the capacity to achieve like one short story book in one weak
( depends on the number of stories that book holds)
TRACKING PROGRESS:
- Schedule your reading timing.
- Understand your capacity of reading each time
- How much you can take at one time, define it clearly
- Make daily, weekly and monthly plans
Note:
Note your progress every week and try to improve it for the next week. This will help you to track your progress easily.
